Mead & Hunt

A BLUEPRINT FOR SUCCESS

Located in Middleton, Wisconsin, just a 45-minute drive from our Dodgeville headquarters, Mead & Hunt is one of the nation’s leading architectural and engineering consulting firms. The company has been designing and building American infrastructure for more than a century, and now has around 700 employees in over 30 offices across the United States. The firm also relies on Lands’ End Business for its branded apparel needs—and we’re proud to serve Mead & Hunt as an outfitting partner.

The company was established in 1900 by Daniel W. Mead, explains Water Resources Department Manager, Carson Mettel. In addition to running an engineering firm, Mead also taught at the University of Wisconsin. “One of his first students was Henry Hunt, who eventually became a business partner and they formed the company Mead & Hunt.” Carson shows us century-old plans and diagrams of the company’s earliest projects: dams and hydroelectric plants located on Wisconsin’s rivers. “Around 1907 or so,” he continues, “they began working in the field of hydropower, and that’s what really launched the company.”

Since then, Mead & Hunt has branched out. There’s a good chance you’ve experienced Mead & Hunt’s work firsthand, since the company oversees projects ranging from airport terminals and bridges to highways and industrial facilities.

Mead & Hunt’s current work includes “some of the largest commercial service airports in the United States,” says Chris Reis, Aviation Engineering Department Manager. “We do water resource projects, primarily on the west coast and in the Midwest. Additionally, our architecture group does work for public and private clients throughout the United States.”

With such a diverse range of projects and hundreds of employees, Mead & Hunt needs a wide range of branded clothing options. “There’s a variety of clothing that’s available to each employee,” says Chris.

“Lands’ End Business has done a very nice job of making available all the types of clothing we need for our employees,” adds Compliance Specialist, Anne Black. In the office, polos, dress shirts and blouses bearing the Mead & Hunt logo provide comfortable but professional branded attire. Out in the field, “it’s handy to have more rugged clothing items, like sweatshirts or jackets,” she adds. Logo embroidered apparel is also essential for making a positive impression on the firm’s clients. “Logoed clothing is very important for our brand identity,” says Anne.

“I’m always happy to have Lands’ End clothing because it presents our company in a really good light,” says Carson, who is often engaged in bringing new clients onboard. “I’ve always been impressed with the quality of the clothing. It’s stylish and well made.”

Anne also points out that Lands’ End Business “makes the process of choosing clothing very easy for our employees” through a custom online store, and addresses the Mead & Hunt team’s fit and sizing needs effectively: “We’re all shaped and sized differently. Lands’ End Business is focused on taking care of their customers and making sure they get whatever they need whenever they need it, and making sure it’s right.”

“Doing the right thing by people has been an important part of our heritage for a long time,” says Carson, explaining a philosophy that has guided Mead & Hunt for well over 100 years. As president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Daniel Mead rewrote the society’s code of ethics. “When someone new comes to work for Mead & Hunt, we talk about Daniel Mead, we talk about his thoughts on engineering ethics, and we really think it’s an important part of doing the right thing,” says Carson.

Working with Lands’ End Business as an outfitting partner has helped Mead & Hunt “do the right thing” for its staff and brand, says Chris. “It’s been a great relationship.”
