A Living Legacy
"Lands' End and the Towbes Group have a lot on common," says Craig Zimmerman, CEO of The Towbes Group. "Just like us," he adds, "Lands' End provides quality."
With headquarters centrally located in Santa Barbara's picturesque downtown district, The Towbes Group owns and manages 2,800 residential units and 1.8 million square feet of commercial space in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties.
The company takes pride in offering residents a high standard of living, with spacious apartments, attractive landscaping and amenities for wellness and entertainment. The Towbes Group has also received awards for sustainability, and has installed "bike fix-it stations" equipped with a bicycle pump and essential tools, at several properties. Zimmerman himself is an avid cyclist, often biking to the office when the weather is fine—which is almost every day in southern California.
Giving back to the community has been important to the Towbes Group ever since it was founded by the late Michael Towbes over 65 years ago. Employees have volunteered to help with local projects, including rebuilding community buildings destroyed in recent wildfires. Towbes, who passed away in 2017, was a leading philanthtopist in Santa Barbara, spearheading the restoration of the Spanish-colonial revival Granada Theater, a much-loved local landmark, among many other projects that benefit the community today.
As Michael Towbes's successor, Zimmerman is committed to building on the founder's legacy. "We like to think that his vision still lives on today when an entrepreneur starts a business in one of our office buildings, or when a small-shop owner can realize their dream of opening up a retail store. We're not just a development firm. We're building communities."
Comfortable and functional logo apparel, he adds, plays a role in realizing this vision. "What we do to improve lives really starts with our own team members. The clothing helps our employees focus on providing a high-quality experience and standard of living for our clients. Lands' End Business apparel has provided a lot of value for us, because it allows our team members to choose exactly what they want in the size, fit and color they want."
According to Zimmerman, Lands' End Business has provided "a one-stop shop" with "all of the different types of clothing that we need. We have people doing gardening at our apartment communities, we have corporate executives, we have people in sales, so we have a wide variety of needs for our corporate clothing." He adds that logo clothing from Lands' End business makes an impression in the community and unifies the Towbes brand across multiple properties—each with its own logo and signature color.
"Our brand is very important to us," Zimmerman says. "After 60 years the Towbes Group means something to the community. We know that when we put our logo on something it's going to have meaning."
